This is EXACTLY how we felt (dogs included) last night! We went camping over the weekend and had an AWESOME time! It had been NINE years since we've gone! Riley is the only dog that has been before and she's always been a good camping doggie, and it turns out that Aidan and Reavy are as well...THANK GOD!I've had work in Jan and Feb so far this year so we had a little extrie cashola, and since camping is super cheap anyway, we decided to give it a whirl. Since it was our first foray back into the world of camping, we just made it super easy and went to Lake Village - about an hour away and stayed at Lake Chicot State Park. It's the largest natural lake in AR - it's one of those oxbow lakes (or whatever they're called - 7th grade was along fucking time ago!!) It used to be part of the Mississippi River, and I think that MS was only 15 min away or so.
When we got there and started setting up Friday afternoon, we quickly realized that there is ANOTHER bag to our tent- the one with the POLES! Fuck! So - we are of course not even remotely surprised that something like this happened, we just had to either go back home (fuck that) or go buy a new tent! We voted on the new tent plan :) We went to an old Wal-Mart in some frightening town in AR and got a new, kick-ass tent for $35!
We had SUCH a great time that we are going to go do it again at the end of the month! Yay camping!! :) I'll post some pics that we took!

Wow! I'm impressed and totally jealous! Sounds like you had fun! Any good camping food? Smores?
Since we hadn't been in SO LONG we wanted it to be SUPER easy so - we just shoved the futon mattress in the car, got the tent (minus the POLES!!), clothes, etc put some cokes in a small cooler and got ice when we got gas on the way out of town.
It was about 8 miles to drive into the town there so we just had McDonalds for breakfast sat and sun. We didn't eat anything friday night, we just drank :).Sat for dinner we had subway sandwiches - Sat for lunch we had pbj sandwiches b/c I got some bread and pb and j when i got the new tent at Walmart. I also bought two fold up chairs - they weren't even $6 dollars - crazy! They don't have arms like yours did, but who cares - they were $6! :)
Oh, and I got two cheap ass led light lanterns, but since we just needed a little light at the picnic table because we had a fire and a plug-in lamp in the tent, they were fine. We want to get a coleman one for about $20 that I saw at Walmart for next time, and an air mattress b/c taking the futon deal out, into the jeep, out, into the tent,etc. SUCKED. Plus, it's TINY and Reavy HAS to be between us and Aidan sleeps on the bed as well, so we were really CRAMPED! Hopefully we can get a larger size in the air mattress!! :) And next time we are going to do more food- but I think we'll still eat breakfast at Mc Donalds -it's $6 for both of us AND we don't have to fuck with coffee!! :)
It sounds like you all had so much fun. I'm jealous, too!! Jealous because of the camping, jealous because of the McDonalds, jealous because of the drinking... :)
Damn it! Now I'm going to have to start stocking up on my camping gear! You know what you should get -- one of those head lamp thingees. I LOVE mine! And all I use it for is just walking the dogs. I imagine it would come in handy when you're camping.
we have a leash that has a light on it. but, they eat early enough that they do their "stuff" way before dark, so it wasn't a problem! :)
