I have a recipe for a broccoli rice casserole that is awesome. It has tons of shredded sharp cheddar cheese in it as well as cheeze whiz! YUM!! Actually, there is this book you should checkout. It's called "The Dinner Doctor", and it's full of different recipes on how to 'doctor' up basic ingredients. For example, there's a whole chapter on different things to do with a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store, and a page about how to doctor up mac and cheese. It's a really cool book, and I got part of the chicken pot pie recipe from there. She also has a book called "The Cake Doctor" which is how to doctor up boxed cake mixes. You're a great cook on your own, but these books might give you some more creative ideas!
I love making the whole chickens form the store- it's like a very small turkey! Usually I just put the normal traditional spices on them- but one time we tried it w/ lemons and oranges and some asian spices-it was pretty good-since we don't have an on hand supply of lemons and oranges, we've only done it once! I think I'll try to find that book online sometime! :)
You should totally check this book out. It's great. The description on the front of the book is The Dinner Doctor doctors canned, frozen, boxed, bagged, & ready-made deli food for over 230 fast, fresh-tasting dishes."
She also includes a recipe for something called "Swirly Dogs" which is the canned corn bread twist dough wrapped around wieners and baked. (which sounds really fucking good right now!)
I mean, how could you go wrong with a book that contained a recipe for something called "Garlicky Cheese Grits Casserole"???
I kind of do that kind of stuff already- like I'll add frozen shrimp and vegetables to our ramen and make it a little more appetizing- but I totally want to get this chick's book! I'm sold! :)
